The Inns of Devonshire
Timeless Regency Collection
Authors Sally Britton, Annette Lyon, and Deborah M. Hathaway have joined together to create a trio of delightfully clean regency romance stories.
The Inns
of Devonshire
If you
love regency romance and enjoy a quick, clean read, look no further. The Inns of Devonshire contains three sweet
romance stories. All three stories are
centered around inns and the characters are working class people. This is a lovely diversion from most regency
romance stories that focus on fancy balls and titled people.
The Seventh
Star Inn is a delightful story. Susan
Baxter has lived in Totnes her entire life and she loves its rich history and antiquated buildings like the Seventh Star Inn. Life hasn’t been easy for her since her
father passed away, but the wonderful people of Totnes have tried to help any
way they can. When the landlord dies and
the new owner comes to town Susan wonders what kind of landlord he will be. Mr. Collin Stonecroft has recently inherited properties in Totnes and he has a vision for the town......and Miss Baxter. When they finally meet he isn't what Susan
expects and she begins to feel hopeful, that is until he shares his plans to
change her beloved town.
Sally
Britton did a fabulous job creating some really great characters and transporting
me to the quaint little town of Totnes, all while keeping the story a short
read. Often, I feel a bit disappointed
with short stories because I don’t get a good feel for the people or places in
the book. Not so with this story!
Book 2 The
Truth About Mr. Blackmore by Annette
Lyon
Leigh
Cutler lives at the Old Grey Inn where she works for her aunt and uncle. Life is rather dull and monotonous until
Mattias McGrady comes to stay at the inn.
For the first time Leigh finds herself with more than just chores to
pass the time. Mattias has a secret an
he needs Leigh’s help to keep it that way, but will sharing this secret hurt
Mattias’ career?
I really
enjoyed this story and how the relationship unfolded between Leigh and Mattias. This story shows just how much something like a name could affect someone during this time period. Once again the author did a really good job
of expressing the characters in such a short story.
Book 3 The
Coachman’s Choice by Deborah M. Hathaway
Mary
Thorne grew up in the town of Clovelly where her family has run the Golden
Mermaid Inn for generations. It’s a
place she loves and plans to remain as the inn will one day be hers. She spends her days busily keeping the inn
running and avoiding the coachmen because they’re all the same….aren’t they?
Robert
Northcott is making his dreams a reality one step at a time. An orphaned boy, he started out working in a
stable and now has the job of a coachman.
He is one step away from his dream at driving a coach in London. Every week he stays at the Golden Mermaid
Inn, one of the stops on his route. Mr.
Northcott, like most other coachmen, is a flirt and he doesn’t waste any time
flirting with Mary. Robert and Mary
begin spending more time together, but their goals have them going in opposite
directions.
This story really shows the importance of family and finding a home. A sweet story with really likable characters. Even though it’s a short read, Deborah Hathaway manages to pack a lot of growth into her characters.
A sweet trio of stories that I think deserves ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
